Recent Weddings, Ceilidhs and a look forward to Hogmanay

Updated: Nov 9, 2023

HotScotch Ceilidh Band have been busy over the last few weeks and have played at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens, Melrose Corn Exchange, The Byre at Inchyra, Broxmouth Park, MacArts Galashiels, and Dr Old Bells Baths to name a few.

We love the variety of all the different venues and every event is very special.

In August we put on our own public ceilidh in the Scottish Borders town of Melrose, just near to the village where accordionist Paul grew up.

The Corn Exhange is a great community hall and has regular events on all year round. There was a brilliant crowd of dancers and the night went extremely well. We will definitely be repeating this again in the future.

Broxmouth Park was a new venue for us to play in - a wonderful courtyard near Dunbar in East Lothian which has been purpose built and

set up perfectly for weddings, and even has it’s own accommodation attached,

Dr Old Bells Baths is a lovely rustic feel to it. As the name suggests, it is a converted swimming baths in the centre of Leith and now a stunning city centre wedding venue.

As part of the Fresher’s week events for Heriot Watt University, the Galashiels campus held a ceilidh at MacArts where a group of international students and visiting delegation from Germany took part in a fantastic night of ceilidh dancing. The danced all the popular favourites such as Strip the Willow, the Gay Gordons, Eightsome Reel, Cumberland Square Eight, Military Two-Step, Virginia Reel and many others too. You can find instructions and videos for all of these dances on the ceilidh dance instructions page of our website.

For most, this was the first time they had been to a ceilidh, but all joined in with voracious energy and it was a brilliant night!

The autumn and winter months have lots of exciting events planned ahead and we will be playing at The Assembly Roxy in Edinburgh again for Hogmanay. We last played there in 2019 and are very much looking forward to brining in the new year with Laldie Ceilidhs and a high energy dance floor. Tickets available here.

We will also be making a welcome return to Edinburgh Ceilidh Club on Tuesday 21st November.
